SCHMITTEN. The ADVENTURE MOUNTAIN in Zell am See

SKIING & SNOWBOARDING. Up hill and down dale – a true delight!

The Schmitten in Zell am See - the most beautiful panoramic mountain in Austria, summer and winter - is one of the ski areas in Salzburg province richest in traditions. Apart from the views of more than thirty 3,000-meter peaks, winter sports fans enjoy a highly varied range. Zell’s home mountain has unbelievable variety and ski slope entertainment on offer, extending over approximately 77 kilometers of ski runs. With highly modern cablecars - including the Schmittenhöhebahn with its stylish cabins designed by Porsche Design Studio - your winter adventures are launched already on the ride upwards. Once at the top, we suggest to visit the terrace of the Schmitten-Café, directly inside the Schmittenhöhebahn mountain station, or the new terrace of the Berghotel to enjoy the overwhelming panoramic view.

Afterwards the motto is ”Skiing until your legs begin to burn, or simply taking things a little easier and enjoying every moment“ – here on the Schmitten, enthusiastic alpine fans of all skill levels will find their own personal ski El Dorado: 77 kilometres of slopes are just waiting to be used. With 25 kilometres of blue pistes, 27 kilometres of red pistes and 25 kilometres of black pistes, everyone can find a piste for skiing. Children have fun in the children´s area at the Glocknerwiese or do their first steps on skis on Schmidolin´s magic carpet near the Areitbahn valley station. Freeskier and Boarder meet at the Funpark Schmitten, with rails, fun-boxes, kickers, spins and  quarterpipe. Suitable for pros is the legendary black Trassabfahrt (Nr. 14). If you crave for even more, let it all “hang out” on the moguls run, the timing hill, or on the training slope. Also the skimovie track on the Sonnenalm is very popular, tomorrow’s movie stars can make their own ski movie here. More information about the Skimovie you can find here. And maybe some people discover one or more of the colossal wooden sculptures along the pistes.

As you know all that exercise plus all that fresh mountain air stimulates the appetite. Numerous huts and mountain restaurants provide the perfect stopover to replenish body and spirit. Whether for a quick espresso in the morning at 2,000 meters altitude, an extensive lunchtime break on one of the many sun-drenched terraces or a cultivated après-ski session: the mountain cuisine on the Schmitten leaves nothing to be desired. For the descents to the valley, winter sports lovers can select from five different runs.

All 29 runs are serviced by snowmaking equipment, guaranteeing perfect wintertime joy at 2,000 meters altitude. Attentive customer-care service offers, such as equipment rental, deposit and ski service complete the wintertime package.
